This part is the easiest way (Recommended)to replace the gear. Remove the chain, remove the three screws from the top plate,remove the bottom gear, remove and replace the entire assembly.

The typical cause for gear failure is: lack of lubrication, garage door out of balance, door slams to the floor in the "down" cycle.

Maintenance: Lubricate the drive gear periodically, adjust the "down" limit switch to meet the floor without slamming, keep garage door springs adjusted for proper balance or replace springs if necessary. Lubricate all garage door hardware, rollers, sheaves and track radius
